KIENHOLZ: A Retrospective
http://www.echonyc.com/~whitney/WMAA/kienholz/mainkein.html
"From February 29 to June 2, the gallery floors will display life-size storefronts, a cell in a mental hospital, a bordello, a bar -- all of which are peopled with the Kienholzes' bizarre menagerie of figures they cobbled together from machine parts, furniture and everyday castoffs. Many of these pieces, bought up by European collectors in the '60s, haven't been seen in the U.S. in 30 years, and are not likely ever to return because of the enormous complexity of traveling them. http://www.echonyc.com/~whitney/exhibs/biennial.html
"For more than 60 years the Biennial, and its predecessor, the Whitney Annual, has been the Whitney's signature exhibition and the premier showcase for the most important developments in recent American art. The 1997 Biennial is the 69th in the series of Biennial exhibitions, established by Museum founder Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney in 1932. This exhibition is curated by Lisa Phillips, curator, Whitney Museum, and Louise Neri, U.S. editor of Parkett. More than 200 selections by approximately 70 artists -- drawings, paintings, sculptures, film and video works, photography, installations, printed media, dance, performance, and sound -- will be on view, most for the first time in the United States."

Exposition. The WARHOL Look/Glamour Style Fashion
http://www.echonyc.com/~whitney/WMAA/warhol/main.html
" The Warhol Look does not refer exclusively to Andy Warhol's appearance, it also suggests how the artist looked at fashion, Hollywood, New York culture and how these influences had a decisive impact on his life and work. In turn, his look and his work have informed contemporary style, fashion, and popular culture. From his childhood to his untimely death at the age of fifty-eight, Andy Warhol's interest in beauty and stardom was fundamental to his artmaking. Together, Mark Francis, Chief Curator and Margery King, Associate Curator of The Andy Warhol Museum, have organized an exhibition in seven sections that traces Warhol's unflagging fascination with glamour, style, and fashion from the 1940s to the 1980s. Over 40 other artists' work accompany Warhol's illustrations, paintings, films, magazines, photographs, and collection of clothing. "

Also sharing the exhibition space in the galleries will be a reconstruction of Richard Pousette-Dart's studio. Pousette-Dart's paintings, notebooks and objects that the artist himself collected will be a part of this installation which will explore this artist's working environment as a part of his creative process."
