Notes : [ Plastic, that ubiquitous substance with its extraordinary range of properties -- both alluring and repellent -- has been used by many artists to make art works since the 1960s. Though it is so familiar in daily life, it still seems strange and incongruous as the stuff of art. Yet the principle of plasticity (from which plastic takes its name) is central to artistic creation -- and the visual arts were once widely referred to as 'the plastic arts' for that reason. In a way that parallels art, plastic signifies the endless possibilies of forming and shaping new things. Works using plastic are the focus of this exhibition from the MCA Collection, curated by Ben Curnow. ...
