Notes : [ The latest photographs of Grzegorz Jarmocewicz emphasize nudity more than earlier ones. The young, mostly male figures become entangled in the strangest relationships. Their interpretation can be very intriguing. Because nudity for a long time has been known as a means of aristic provocation, it no longer effects as strongly as it used to.
However Jarmocewicz deals with naked body in very deceitful manner. He tries through his constructed cabaret-like scenes to alter stereotypes. He subverts the existing status quo. He questions well known symbols such as a rose as a symbol of love. He makes ironical remarks about division of sexes and light-heartedly treats the possibility of some situations occuring. He evokes as meaningful objects as crystal ball, chalice, rope, chain or cello and tools like saw or pliers. These object which often attract our attention are juxtaposed with naked bodies and become expressive protagonists of particular images. They acquire new meanings end enhnace the symbolism of the respective scenes in Jarmocewicz's theatre. The world seen in his pictures is made unreal, the human body is shown in unnatural poses with bodies of young men suspended in imaginary space and against the law of gravity. The constructed photographs of Grzegorz Jarmocewicz prove his unbridled imagination and confirm his aspiration to free himself from the dull everyday monotony. The images are also an attempt to break the repetitive banal situations which happen between people. The question is if this attempt does not go too far towards the creation of completly new grotesque reality. It seems, however, that in his world is more space for a dream, a joke and irony than for hard and gloomy prose of everyday toil.
