Notes :

[ Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle has prepared a three man exhibition of Jerzy Nowosielski, Mikoˆaj Smoczynski and Leon Tarasewicz. It is the first time these three contemporary Polish painters from different generations will come together here in one space. Jerzy Nowosielski is considered to be a master of Polish painting, while Leon Tarasewicz and Mikoˆaj Smoczynski are mid-generation artists.

The aim of the exhibition at the CCA is to confront various attitudes and ways of art expression, although there are all derived from one source. It includes both older and newer works as well as temporary works made especially for this exhibition. It also is an attempt to transcend the bi-demensional space of the pictorial canvas: Leon Tarasewicz (famous for monumental works made directly on walls) has painted on 25 pillars specially built in gallery space; Mikoˆaj Smoczynski has created a metal installation around a little known from a private collections painting by Nowosielski "Beatrix Cenci". Although works by these artists often differ drastically from ordinary conceptions about painting, they refer to the problems and practice in painting; consequently, the final effects are clearly the art of painting.
