In From Durer to Rauschenberg: A Quintessence of Drawing, Masterworks from the Albertina and the Guggenheim -the first such exhibition in the Guggenheim's history- ten drawings by each of 17 artists offer a critical, historical look at both the role of drawing in these artists' oeuvres and the development of the medium as a technical and conceptual tool over the last 500 years." "The artists represented by the Albertina include celebrated painter, draftsman, and printmaker Albrecht Durer, Renaissance virtuoso Raphael, Baroque masters Federico Barocci and Peter Paul Rubens, 17th-century master Rembrandt, landscape artist Claude Lorrain, and Rococo painter Jean-Honore Fragonard, whose drawings in the exhibition have never before been shown publicly. From the 19th century, the Albertina offers Rudolf von Alt, Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, and Oskar Kokoschka.
