Exposition. The Collection in Context: Henry MOORE's "Stringed Figure No. 1"

04 juin 1998 - 25 octobre 1998

USA, Washington D.C., Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden

"The 100th anniversary of the birth of British sculptor Henry Moore (1898--1986) occasions this one-gallery interpretation of his seminal cherrywood and string sculpture Stringed Figure No. 1, 1937. Texts and additional works reveal the sculpture's origins in 19th-century mathematical models, the direct-carving technique prevalent at the time, and the work's later impact on artists such as Naum Gabo and Kenneth Snelson. Curator of Sculpture Valerie Fletcher conceived and organized the show."
