Exposition. James TURRELL: Spirit and Light
06 juin 1998 - 26 juillet 1998
USA, Houston, Contemporary Arts Museum
Notes : [ James Turrell is a prominent American visual artist who explores the visual and metaphoric potential of natural and man-made light, offering viewers a unique opportunity to interact with a work of art in a way that heightens the awareness of one's own senses. The exhibition will present a survey of Turrell's art since 1966, including a selection of light projections, aquatint prints, and documentation of the Roden Crater, a site-specific work in Arizona that the artist has been working on since 1977. The artist will create two new room installations for the exhibition in which viewers will enter a darkened room and as their eyes adjust to the darkness, discover that across the room is a realm of light so intense and colorful that it seems almost palpable and concrete. The exhibition will also include documentation by Turrell and architect Leslie Elkins. It will include a skyspace, a room with a large window cut out of the ceiling, that will vary from day to night with the greatest change apparent at dusk when day becomes night. The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue with an essay by Associate Curator Lynn M. Herbert, organizing curator of the exhibition.
