Exposition. Snapshots: Photography of Everyday Life

22 mai 1998 - 08 septembre 1998

USA, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

"This exhibition brings together an exemplary group of over two hundred and fifty original snapshots and albums, selected to demonstrate the potential for untutored, often accidental works of art possible only with photography. These works illustrate the importance of amateur domestic photography to the preservation of family histories and cultural memory, in a form that has retained its aura of authenticity and directness for more than one hundred years. Snapshots will interrogate photography's status as a museum art by confronting the power of this alternative, vernacular tradition, through an exhibition that will prove both provocative and visually delightful.
